Team Rocket: Knowing Them by their Fruits

If there is one thing you can always count on Team Rocket to do, it’s showing up in some kind of ridiculous disguise to conceal their identities until it is time to reveal them. As the viewers, we are already wise to their schemes and know that they are up to no good, but for the characters we are watching these disguises seem to work on their unsuspecting victims almost as well as Clark Kent’s glasses conceal that he is Superman. But no matter how fool-proof their disguise appears to be on the surface, Team Rocket’s motives will always be revealed by the actions they take while they are “incognito”. No matter how they choose to dress up, one thing remains the same… Jesse and James eventually expose their true intentions through the impact of what they say and do.

In a world where it is becoming increasingly more difficult to separate the real from the counterfeit, one thing can never be faked… the fruit. People can say the right things and even appear to do the right actions in public, but Jesus guided us to look beyond what can be seen on the outside and look at the actual fruit that is being grown as a result. Fruit isn’t measured by quantity, but by its quality, so rather than be impressed by massive ministries and people with millions of followers let’s look past the “disguises” to the fruit that’s actually being produced. The fruit we produce is measured by its effect on those who consume it.

Every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them. Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord,” shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Matthew 7:17-21

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
