Pokémon Centers – A Place for Healing, Mercy and Grace:

Pokémon is full of unexpected battles, and after taking damage most of them need to take a trip to the Pokémon Center for some healing courtesy of Nurse Joy. The Pokémon Center is not a place for criticizing the choices that caused them to wind up in this condition… preventive care can happen after they have recovered from their wounds. The first priority is to provide them with the healing and comfort they need to recover their health and strength. If the Pokémon Center was known as a place where injured Pokémon are blamed for their poor choices and chastised for their injuries, it wouldn’t receive many clients… they’ve already endured enough pain as it is.

The very first sermon Jesus ever preached began with a quotation from Isaiah 61… His earthly mission was to bring healing and freedom to those in need and He commissioned all of His followers to carry on with His work. Our places of worship should be a place of refuge where those in need of mercy and grace find healing and rest for their souls… no matter how they got into the situation that they are currently in. Our churches aren’t places for us to insulate ourselves from the world… they are spiritual emergency rooms for lost souls and trauma centers for the hurting. Let’s be the “Nurse Joy” who shows unconditional love to the hurting souls the Lord brings into our lives the same way someone once did for us.

And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” Matthew 9:11-13

The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. Luke 4:18-19
