Starscream is a unique Decepticon for a reason more interesting than his constant conniving ways… he was designed with a “mutant” spark that permits him to survive fatal encounters that would permanently extinguish the spark of any other Transformer. But despite receiving this gift of “eternal life” in many different continuities, Starscream didn’t see this as a sign to change his ways… instead, each time he would squander his new opportunity by picking right back up where he left off. Second chances at life are rare in any galaxy, and you would think he would reassess his priorities after each brush with death. But no matter how many times he received a fresh start, he was still the same ol’ Starscream at heart.

Each of us receive the opportunity to be “born again” through Christ’s sacrifice, but if we choose to keep living the same broken life we had before our “rebirth” we are completely missing the point. Receiving forgiveness for our sins and a fresh start is only the first step of the transformation process… His Spirit in us begins changing us from the inside out, renewing our minds, convicting us, and helping us break the chains of our old habits and past sinful behaviors. Let’s not waste another day walking in our old footsteps… we already know where those choices end. Instead, let’s walk in the freedom from sin He purchased for us and leave the ghosts of our past where they belong.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Romans 6:1-2

For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. Hebrews 10:26-27
