Bumblebee’s Return to the Battlefield – The Importance of Showing Grace to the Fallen

In the middle of the battle at the end of the first live-action Transformers movie sits a broken, critically damaged Bumblebee… on the surface, he might have appeared to have been more of a liability to his team than a benefit. But even in this fallen condition, Bumblebee wasn’t finished yet… with the support of a loyal friend and a tow truck, Bumblebee not only returned to the battlefield, but he took out the Decepticon Brawl and saved many allies in the process. Just because he was knocked down did not mean that he was out.

Many times in my life I have observed members of our faith either leave our broken soldiers where they have fallen or shoot our own wounded once they are down. We will all make mistakes and fall short sometimes, and while the sins of our fellow believers are disappointing and damaging to the entire body of Christ, “cancel culture” has no place in this fellowship. We are ALL unworthy of being part of the Lord’s family, and before we judge one of our brothers or sisters for a failure that they have committed, we would do well to heed the words of Jesus when He challenged the religious leaders of His day dragging a woman caught in adultery that “he who is without sin should cast the first stone”. Make no mistake, His words to her were to “go and sin no more”… but those stones aren’t ours to throw. The one we spare might be the one that saves us one day.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” John 8:7

Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:1-2
