At the heart of the conflict between the Autobots and the Decepticons is the difference between what Optimus Prime and Megatron are prepared to do to achieve peace. Both leaders are fixated on peace for their people and their planet, but while Optimus views the path to accomplishing this as critical as the result itself, Megatron is more of a “by any means necessary” kind of guy. Brute force, lying, manipulation, and downright deception are all tools in his arsenal that he is more than willing to employ to accomplish his objectives… both with his adversaries and with his allies. Always justifying the means to his ends, Megatron is an equal opportunity tyrant willing to lie and abuse the truth to get what he wants.
While most of us would never believe we have much in common with Megatron or any of the Decepticons, leaving out information or saying something in a manner that’s designed to mislead or deceive is no different than telling a blatant lie. Many times, I’ve been guilty of such simple and pointless misdirections like saying I’m on my way when I haven’t actually left yet, or deliberately presenting facts in a manner that allows the other person to leave with the wrong impression. As followers of Christ, we’re responsible for both the means of our communication and the end result, always speaking truth in a way that supports understanding by the hearer.
These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren. Proverbs 6:16-19
