Optimus Prime is an icon in the realms of film and animation for a very good reason. He personified servant leadership for ALL sentient beings and proved that being a “Prime” wasn’t about seeking a position of authority for the purposes of ego or satisfying personal ambition. Optimus understood that possessing the Matrix of Leadership was a responsibility to fulfill, not a privilege to wield… a calling to live a life of sacrifice, selflessness, and carrying the burdens of others, even when it meant making the ultimate sacrifice because of his commitment to those ideals. In a universe that is often colored in shades of gray, Optimus’s uncompromisingly bright light is why his spark was chosen to lead the Autobots in the first place. 

In our real world, the desire to lead often comes from places that are primarily seeking our own personal glory and gratification… even Christ’s own disciples struggled with understanding that leaders are called to wash the feet of those who they have been called to serve, not selfishly use their position to advance their own agendas. Rather than using His power to make His own life more comfortable or His path on earth easier, Jesus chose to serve, protect, and save the weak, hurting, and lost, and He has called us to do the same. In the body of Christ, our leadership is measured by what we sacrifice… let’s roll out 🙂

It is not this way among you, but whoever wants to become prominent among you shall be your servant, and whoever desires to be first among you shall be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many. Matthew 20:26-28

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Philippians 2:3-4
