One of the reasons I had difficulty getting into the Pokémon series of games when they first came out was the battle system… specifically the “turn-based” battle system they employed. After years of finding a way to beat many of the games I was playing by simply mashing the buttons rapidly, Pokémon forced me to be patient and wait my turn before I could launch my next attack.  Having the fastest trigger-finger was no longer an advantage or even a strategy for success… I had to learn to be strategic with my turns and patient with the process if I wanted to be victorious.

I enjoy “waiting” in the real world about as much as I enjoy it in my video games. It’s definitely not my favorite. But waiting on the Lord is about more than simply demonstrating our patience and faith in Him… it is part of the strategy for His perfect plan to line up across all of the requirements that must come together for success to occur. Even Jesus said the words “My time has not yet come”, waiting until He was thirty years old before He took His first step into public ministry… because His path required everyone from Peter to Judas to Pontius Pilate to be in the correct position so they could play their part in His mission to save the world. If the Lord is making us wait for an answer to prayer to come to pass, we can rest assured He has a good reason for it. Don’t lose heart even if the wait is long. His timing is always perfect.

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord! Psalm 27:14

The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. Lamentations 3:5-6
