Final Fantasy Dialogue: Seeking a “Fresh Word” When We’ve Already Been Told What to Do

The characters in Final Fantasy characters tend to have a lot to unique things to say, so when they start repeating the exact same lines of dialogue I know that is the game’s way of politely informing me that I need to go ahead and do what they are telling me to do. If I want to move the narrative forward and hear them say something different, I will have to complete the last objective that I was given… otherwise, they will just keep reminding me that the last thing they asked me to do is a prerequisite that can’t be skipped, ignored, or postponed. The game isn’t going to offer me new guidance simply because I keep asking for it… if I want to continue progressing in my adventure, it’s time to complete the last instruction I received.

Many times in my prayer life, I reach out to the Lord seeking guidance on what I should do next… but if His response isn’t what I wanted to hear, I wait and check back with Him later to see if He has a different answer (spoiler alert: He doesn’t). The Lord never changes, so while His plans for each of us are unique, they aren’t flexible. Rather than exhausting ourselves chasing a “fresh word” from the Lord that validates what we would prefer to do, let’s listen and be obedient to what He has already told us to do. Sometimes in life we are waiting on God for an answer… but if we haven’t followed His last instruction, He is waiting on us.

Also the Glory of Israel will not lie nor change His mind; for He is not a man, that He would change His mind. 1 Samuel 15:29

And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.” Exodus 14:15

So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:11
