Peace in the Storm: A Table in the Presence of our Enemies

While it is played for laughs, one of my favorite moments in the “KPop Demon Hunters” movie is when the Huntrix crew pauses in the middle of a dangerous battle to scarf down some food. Carb loading before or after a major endeavor is fairly common for most of us, but finding a time and place for this in the middle of a fight isn’t easy and feels a bit reckless. Making space for their “need to feed” during conflict might’ve seemed dangerous, but it sent a pretty clear message to their adversaries… they weren’t afraid of their opposition or even surprised by their presence. They were confident enough in their destiny to look evil straight in the eye and calmly slurp down some ramen because they already knew who would be standing victorious in the end.

During most of my real world battles, I tend to be a bit of a wreck… I get stressed, I freak out, and I’m the complete opposite of calm. Who can stop and eat at a time like this? But the Lord did more than promise to walk alongside us in our darkest hours… He said He would prepare a table for us to eat at in the very presence of our enemies. We can have as much peace in the midst of our battle as we choose to, so let’s take a prayerful pause and give Him an opportunity to replenish our strength and give us comfort in our storm. We already know who the winner is.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Psalm 23:4-5

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. John 16:33
