Mario Kart and the DLC Dilemma: Taking Up Our Cross

Like almost every other video game out on the market today, Mario Kart 8 allowed us to expand our experience through paid DLC, offering even more characters to play as and additional tracks to master… all for an additional price, of course. While nobody enjoys paying more money to experience the fullness of a game that we have already purchased, these extra add-ons truly do contain some of the most compelling content in the game. The cost for all the game has to offer might feel higher than we intended to pay, but gaining access to the full experience is worth it.

While it is absolutely true that our access to the Father was purchased and paid in full by Christ’s sacrificial death, there is still a cost involved for all who choose to follow the Lord. His disciples not only made tremendous sacrifices on this planet to serve Him with their lives, but give their final breath in the accomplishment of His will as well. Over the years, many who truly desired to experience the fullness of a relationship with the Lord and make an impact on this planet have paid the ultimate price… because following in His footsteps leads each of us to take up our own cross as well. Our crosses may look different, and each will cost all we have… but giving our lives back to the One who gave them to us in the first place is the only way to truly find them.

Whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it? Luke 14:27-28

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” Matthew 16:24-25
