One of the main reasons I play video games is because I enjoy the ACTION… after all, fast-paced battles with a timer counting down and the fate of the world on the line isn’t something I get to experience in my day job. But sometimes my games require me to do something that I’m all too familiar with in the real world… to wait for the next thing to happen. I want to go run, jump, and smash my way to victory, but some of these sequences aren’t solved through my combat skills… they require multiple pieces of the puzzle to come together slowly, methodically, and in their own time. The most challenging action for me to take in a game isn’t usually a difficult jump or taking down a tough boss… it’s when the game tells me there’s nothing left to do but wait.
It can be frustrating to simply “wait on God” for our answers to prayer, but from Abraham to Paul and every follower in between there are times when the only “thing” the Lord is asking us to do in our situation is “nothing”. Standing in prayer and waiting for an answer is never easy, but our attempts to “help God” answer our prayers a little bit faster always results in an “Ishmael” solution when He told us to wait for an “Isaac”. When we have done all that He has placed in our hearts to do, the only part that’s left is the hardest… stand, be still, and trust in His timing.
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! Psalm 46:10
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:13
