Before the gaming world fully embraced online gaming, “LAN parties” were the way we came together to play titles like Halo with our fellow gamers. Some would bring gaming consoles and cables, others would carry televisions and monitors, and a few would arrive with nothing more than a controller in hand… but there was a beautiful, irreplaceable camaraderie in each player coming together with whatever gift they possessed to be part of a shared experience with others. Strangers became friends, friends became family, and gamers became a true community… united despite their differences.

In the body of Christ, we are all called to join together in one accord for the purpose of edifying each other with whatever gifts we’ve been given… our participation is not only an expectation, it is a prerequisite for unity. It is in our willingness to humbly serve each other as active members of this family that brings us together, dissolving the superficial walls that divide us. When we feel disconnected, let’s prayerfully consider what gift we possess that builds others up and bring it to the party… to achieve true unity, some assembly is required. 

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Psalm 133:1

Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God. Ephesians 5:18b-21
