The Final Fantasy franchise has delivered two unique cinematic adventures over the years… the well-received Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and the decidedly less successful Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. While both animated films were visually stunning and had the benefit of carrying the Final Fantasy name, only one of them resonated with their fan base while the other went down in flames… and it’s pretty easy to see why. Advent Children was authentically connected to the franchise that they owed their name to and represented a continuation of that relationship, while Spirits Within carried the name “Final Fantasy” but lacked an actual connection.
When we call ourselves followers of Christ or “Christians”, this title comes with an expectation… an expectation that we can only fulfill if we remain in an intentionally connected state with the Lord throughout our day. Being a “Christian” doesn’t mean that we will always do everything perfectly, but it DOES mean that the authenticity of our relationship with Him should always shine through in all we that we choose to say and do. Let’s represent Him today in more than just name alone… we are called to act as the continuation of His mission to seek and save the lost, love and heal the hurting, and forgive and restore those in need by carrying His Spirit within us to the world.
He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. 1 Corinthians 6:17
Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. John 15:4-5
