There may not be a more iconic villain in all of gaming than Sephiroth, the antagonist of Final Fantasy VII. Interestingly enough, he was once a fellow soldier… an ally who transformed from appearing to be an angel of light into a sinister agent of darkness. What made Sephiroth such a dangerous and lethal adversary was not just his strength… he was sincerely convinced that his path was the correct one, and he was willing to go to any length to bring it to pass. But he was deceived… despite how sincerely and thoroughly convicted he was that his way was the only way to cure his planet, he was still sincerely wrong. Sephiroth’s path would only lead to destruction.

In His time on earth, Jesus directly challenged the opinions and convictions of all who chose to follow Him, and any belief that ran contrary to His message, no matter how sincerely held, was rejected. Christ’s messages were full of love and hope, but the standards of love and hope that He shared are far above our self-serving, misguided interpretations of them. All that we read or hear, no matter how convincing the messenger is, must be held up to the light of the complete Word of God so we can separate the truth from the lies and personal views of others. The words of our enemy, even when they come from a mouth that we trust, are designed to deceive, mislead and destroy… only His Word carries the full truth.

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. Proverbs 14:12

Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22

And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 2 Corinthians 11:14
