This is going to be a mildly controversial take… as much as I loved almost everything about playing Final Fantasy X, I never enjoyed ANY aspect of the Blitzball matches. My original excitement to participate in what looked like a thrilling new form of soccer in the cutscenes disappeared quickly once the match started, and participating in them felt more like a chore than a fun break from the story. The rules were confusing, player movement was annoying, and even all of my years of playing and enjoying traditional sports titles didn’t give me an advantage in this turn-based mini-game. But if I wanted to unlock the rewards that were exclusively earned by enduring this challenge successfully, I had to take the time to learn and strengthen skills that weren’t intuitive to me.
While there are certainly aspects of following Christ that may come easily to us, there are also parts that are challenging and require a higher degree of discipline to maintain. For some, prayer feels more natural than it does for others… and for those who already enjoy the act of reading, studying the Bible may come a little easier. Some show and share His love with ease, and others have to work a little harder at it. Let’s invest our time today into spiritual exercises that build up the areas that aren’t part of our natural gifts or interests… it’s the only way to 100% completion.
I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:27
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2
