The gameplay in the Kingdom Hearts series is broken up into two segments… the fun part where we get to run, jump, and fight bad guys, and the less enjoyable parts where you have to travel between worlds using the “Gummi ship”. As I’m sure you guessed, I don’t enjoy the Gummi ship portions at all… they feel like they came from an entirely different game that I never wanted to play, and if I had the choice I would skip them. But part of the story is getting to my destination, and even though flying the ship feels different (and much less fun) than the platforming segments I enjoy, it’s all a part of the game… and if I want to play it, I have to accept the entire package.
Some parts of our Christian walk will feel great (like receiving undeserved love, grace and favor from the Lord), and other portions will feel a lot less enjoyable (like forgiving those who never apologized to us, waiting on the Lord for answers to prayer, or turning the other cheek). But all of these are critical components to the larger story that He is telling through our lives, and our times of pain, frustration, and struggle are used by Him to prepare us for our next mission. Rather than simply accept these “Gummi ship” parts of our walk with Christ, let’s embrace the lessons they are designed to teach us and trust that they’ll all make sense when arrive at our next destination.
Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. Psalm 34:19
May the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 1 Peter 5:10
For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. 1 Corinthians 13:12
