The Kingdom Hearts series is filled with serious characters dealing with complicated existential issues, and right in the middle of all of this angst and turmoil stands Goofy… a kind and gentle soul who prefers a shield to defend his friends over a weapon to attack his foes. But Goofy’s kindness is certainly not a weakness… his refusal to allow the actions of others to dictate his emotional responses or even alter his demeanor proves that he is one of the strongest characters in the game. As others complained about the unfairness of their treatment and swapped insults for insults, Goofy stayed true to his North Star, remaining cheerful and kind even in the darkest of times.

In a world where becoming offended is easier than ever and swapping insults with those who disagree with us has become commonplace, we are called to rise above our fleshly instincts to respond in anger and demonstrate the kindness and compassion of Christ instead. As our Lord hung on the cross, He endured all of the insults that were hurled at Him without attacking back or even defending himself. Instead, He used the limited breath remaining to Him to ask the Father to forgive them of their ignorance. It isn’t a sign of weakness to overlook insults and choose the path of peace when others attack us… it is where we reveal the character of Christ within us the most.

Therefore I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in distresses, in persecutions, in difficulties, in behalf of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:10
