The Flood were truly horrifying enemies in Halo for multiple reasons, but it was their method of attack that made them so challenging to defeat. Taken individually, they are fairly small and relatively weak, and from a distance they aren’t much of a threat… but that is why they never hunt alone. The Flood conceal themselves in small, enclosed spaces before overwhelming their prey through a lethal combination of surprise and sheer numbers… and even the most well trained and fully armored Spartans can quickly find themselves overcome by their relentless assault. The key to defeating the Flood is to neither give into our fear nor underestimate their capabilities…  we must stay calm, find a defensible position, and remember that we are destined to defeat them.

One of the most potent attacks of our spiritual enemy is to come in like a flood and overwhelm us with a multitude of small problems, paralyzing us with battles that seem to be coming from every direction. If he can get us to feel outnumbered by the volume of challenges we’re facing, even a tiny issue that would’ve never derailed us by itself can feel insurmountable. When these moments come, let’s stop and remember the magnitude of the God we serve and keep our eyes fixed on Him through the flood we’re in. No matter how large these waves look, He’s still in control of the storm.

So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun; when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him. Isaiah 59:19
