Xbox Live: Giving Away a Free Sample

One of the savviest decisions Microsoft made when originally launching their new online “Xbox Live” service was to give away the first taste of it for free… almost every game I purchased came with a card for a free trial of the membership for anywhere from a few days to an entire month. My friends and I would coordinate when we would activate our “free sample cards” for a weekend so we could all play together, and after a few sessions we were all completely hooked. Sure, there were plenty of cards that were never redeemed as some people chose to reject the offer, but Microsoft still gave everyone an invitation to the Xbox Live party and let them make the choice if they wanted to participate.

As followers of Christ, we’ve been sent to bear and share His fruit to every soul that we meet, cheerfully offering free samples of His love, mercy, kindness and grace. While there will be many times that our invitations will be rejected or even responded to poorly by those we are offering “free fruit samples” to, we weren’t called to take our fruit inside a safe space and insulate ourselves from the all of the souls around us who desperately need it. Let’s make it our mission to not only share Christ with others, but to SHOW Him through our actions… the only way to grow His kingdom is by generously sharing His fruit.

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. John 15:5,8

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22
