While the physical file size of each Call of Duty game has consistently grown larger over the years, the most recent iteration took things one step further by requiring players to maintain a persistent online connection to support texture loading from the cloud. With the game itself already taking up well over 150GB in hard drive space, this is a fairly surprising development… and forcing us to have continuous connectivity to play a game is rarely a popular choice. But if the game is going to deliver the next-level experience gamers are expecting, it doesn’t just require more space on our console, it needs the ability to receive continuous updates in real time.
In our real-world lives, maintaining a persistent connection to Christ to guide us on what to say and when to say it is the only path to reacting properly to the ever-changing world around us. No matter how much space we make for the Lord in our hearts, we must also submit our tongues to His constant guidance or we’ll find ourselves saying things that we’ll regret. Before we choose to speak today, let’s intentionally connect to Him and allow His Spirit to not only give us the right words to say but to add the right “texture” to them as well. Answering our “Call of Duty” many times means our best response to others is simply to hold our peace.
Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. Colossians 4:6
He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of a calm spirit. Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; when he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive. Proverbs 17:27-28
But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. Matthew 10:19-20
