Microsoft’s “Game Pass” subscription service offers a large amount of value for those who have chosen to become members, including “day one” access to major upcoming titles from Microsoft Game Studios… but there is a fairly high recurring cost to participate. While paying the price of admission is far less than the full retail cost of purchasing all of the games we can play while we are actively enrolled in the service, it still comes at a cost to the consumer that must continue to be paid on a regular basis if we want to enjoy all of the benefits that it offers. Game Pass offers a lot of freedom, but it isn’t free.
While the Lord has never raised the price of admission to follow Him, He always made it closer that choosing to follow Him would cost us something… it requires total submission to Him in every aspect of our life. Christ absolutely paid the full price for our sins so we can be reconciled with the Father, but there is still a DAILY cross that we are each charged with carrying as we fulfill our calling. Sure, there will be times when our particular cross will feel unbearable… even Jesus asked if His cup could be passed from Him. But the weight of our daily cross pales in comparison to the burden of living a life without His grace, so let’s count the cost, take up our cross, and follow in His footsteps today.
Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.” Luke 9:23-24
And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it? Luke 14:27-28
