Animal Crossing and a “Foundational” Decision

Choosing where to build our home in Animal Crossing is more important than it seems, and since we make that choice at the very beginning of the game we may not realize that we built it in the wrong place until much later on. Sure, good ol’ Tom Nook will let us move our house (for a fee, of course), but if we knew from the start of the game where our home base would be most conveniently situated, we would have saved a lot of our time, money, and wasted effort running around back and forth across the island. Still, I’m thankful for a second chance to lay a new foundation so I can remedy those early mistakes now that I fully understand the game I’m playing.

If we want the blessing of the Lord on everything that we do, He must be the foundation of every pursuit in our lives… our work, school, friends, activities, and relationships must all have Him at their center and bring Him honor. He cannot reward interests that move us away from Him, but as the “Master Architect” He offers us the opportunity to rebuild every part of our lives that we surrender to Him on HIS foundation. Now that we understand this “game of life” and how we are meant to play it, let’s take every pursuit and desire that is in our hearts and place them under the magnifying glass of His will… only those things that we build for His glory will last.

Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. Luke 6:47-48

For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building. According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 1 Corinthians 3:9-13

And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Colossians 3:17
