Crafting in Animal Crossing: Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

While many games allow us to customize what our virtual avatars look like including the clothes that they wear, Animal Crossing takes it a step further by giving us the tools to MAKE our own outfit. With enough creativity almost any pattern can be generated, allowing me to craft an outfit that resembles Mario’s iconic overalls, Link’s green tunic, or even Zelda’s royal robes. The act of putting these little pixels together may look a little raw, chaotic, and messy up close, but once it has been applied to my character and viewed in the game it accomplishes its purpose and fits into the rest of my little island world perfectly.

We are all uniquely crafted and intentionally gifted for our missions on this planet, but when we look at ourselves under the microscope it can be easy to find flaws in our design and question our Creator’s decisions. While many of us would appreciate being gifted with King Solomon’s wisdom (and money), Esther’s beauty, David’s musical abilities or Samson’s strength more than what we were given, the Lord handcrafted each of us for a very specific purpose. Up close we may look a little messy, but when we pull the camera back and see ourselves and our mission from the Lord’s viewpoint, we can find peace in His divine craftsmanship knowing that we have been perfectly formed and expertly made.

For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. Psalm 139:13-14

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
