As part of our commitment to everyone who has chosen to follow us over the years, we have never engaged in political posts, comments, or dialogues of any kind… and to honor our promise we will continue to do so. But we are also a family ministry first and foremost, so while we won’t comment on any current events so we can keep this a safe space from all of the rhetoric that occurs on all sides of the political spectrum, we feel the hurting and confusion and know it is our calling to speak encouragement and hope at all times, and especially during the darkest ones.
We felt led by the Lord to share these verses today… the response of Jesus Christ Himself when He was told that his cousin and fellow minister John the Baptist had been permanently silenced by those he had offended. First, Jesus went to a deserted place to get alone with God. And then He turned His eyes back to His mission and towards those who still needed Him. He was driven to respond not with anger or rage, but with mercy and compassion. In the darkest of times, He showed us that it is in those moments that that we must shine the light of His love the brightest. It’s actually when it matters the most.
Then his disciples came and took away his body and buried it, and went and told Jesus. When Jesus heard it, He departed from there by boat to a deserted place by Himself. But when the multitudes heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities. And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. Matthew 14:12-14
