Star Wars KOTOR: When the Loyalty Missions ARE the Real Mission

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is one of my all time favorite games for many reasons, and one of them is the unforgettable cast of characters we meet across our journey. From the “odd couple” pairing of Mission Vao and Zaalbar to the eccentric droid HK-47, each party member had their own reasons for joining my team… but if I wanted to unlock their full potential I had to get to know them so I could learn and complete their specific “loyalty missions”. These very personal quests may not have had anything to do with my original mission, but it was the only way to save them and get their best ending.

The most impactful missions we take on in life will always involve people… every part of Christ’s earthly ministry was based on His priority to seek and save the lost. But many times our assignments may appear so small and personal on the surface that the eternal significance of them aren’t immediately obvious. Let’s look at these seemingly inconsequential side missions the same way that Jesus did when He went out of His way to save the woman at the well… in His eyes there are no small quests and every soul is priceless. Let’s act as if today’s “loyalty mission” is the one that completely changes the game, because it might be the one that ends up mattering the most when the final credits roll.

Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ Matthew 25:34-40

For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10
