As Rumi’s journey reached its’ epic conclusion, her final battle against Gwi-Ma began with his mocking accusation that “You can’t fix the world… you can’t even fix yourself.” While Rumi agreed that she was unable to fix herself, she also made it clear she wasn’t here to fight this battle in her own strength alone or on his terms. Her war cry wasn’t a self-affirming message of her own inner worthiness… it was the defiant stand of a David who was going to face this Goliath in battle regardless of his insults and mockery because she knew what she was called to do. Rumi was willing to stare down an entire army of darkness because she knew THEY were the ones who were outnumbered… and it was her song that was destined to take them down.
Every time we take on a mission for the Lord we should expect intense personal attacks from an enemy that knows he can’t defeat a child of God in battle… so he tries to get in our heads so we willingly yield to his accusations and insults. But we aren’t in this battle because we are worthy or strong… it’s because He who is in us has already defeated our opponent. We can do ALL things through Christ, and our song of redemption turns our past into a weapon against the very enemy bringing it up. He might talk a big game… but he runs at the mention of Christ’s name.
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world— our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 1 John 5:4-5
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. James 4:7
