As the Saja Boys devious plan to steal the hearts (and souls) of their fans built to a grand finale, the depth of their deception was revealed in a line from their performance of “Your Idol”. The path to convincing their fans that they were their friends was exposed in the line, “You know I’m the only one who’ll love your sins”… an empty promise used to lure an entire stadium full of people to destruction. While they appeared to be embracing their fans, they were actually setting them up to be sacrificed on the alter of their own selfish ambitions. As their siren song came to a close, it took Rumi’s courage to expose the Saja Boys as frauds… because real friends don’t love each other’s sins, they rescue them from them.
Our true friends in life don’t “love our sins”… they gently encourage us to confront them and try to support us in overcoming them. Nobody who truly loves someone would stand idly by while they pursue a course of action that is harmful or destructive, and anyone who encourages us to participate in activities that only end in pain and misery does not have our best interests at heart. The Lord didn’t call us to be judgmental of others, but He did warn us to be discerning of the company we keep and the influence they have on us. Let’s surround ourselves with those who care enough to share His truth in love.
Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame. 1 Corinthians 15:33-34
If a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Galatians 6:1
Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins. James 5:19
