The unprecedented move to take a movie that was exclusively streaming on Netflix and place it in theaters was a bit of a risk… but KPop Demon Hunters was clearly designed to be enjoyed in the company of other like-minded fans. Crowds surged to cinemas to buy tickets to a movie they already had access to at home, sending it to the top spot in the box office… because there is a huge difference between enjoying it at home vs. the powerful experience of raising your voices together in harmony as a joyous family of fans. Sure, a peaceful private watch on our own sofa is still a great way to experience the movie, but it simply isn’t the same as gathering people from every walk of life together as a united fandom to laugh, cry, and celebrate our shared passion.
Our Christian walk was never designed to be a lonely journey… that’s why the Lord commanded us to gather together as often as possible to strengthen and encourage each other in our shared faith, surrounding ourselves with fellow believers who are traveling this same path with us. Our private time with the Lord is important and must be protected at all costs, but we also need the supplemental time of joining with other followers to sing, share, learn, and build each other up. He put us together as one body for a reason… to share this experience as a family.
And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:15-16
