Rumi’s Private Pain and Secret Shame: Concealing Never Leads to Healing

In spite of all of her success as the lead singer and warrior of Huntrix, Rumi held a secret that she was hiding from the world as well as those closest to her… and rather than allowing those who loved her to help her, she concealed the darkness within hoping she could deal with it on her own. But the burden of fear that she carried was more than she could bear, and every time she lied to hide her secret shame she moved further away from addressing and solving her actual problem. It wasn’t until she brought her fears into the light that she found the answer that she was seeking… once she stopped hiding, healing was waiting for her on the other side.

As Rumi learned the hard way, concealing never leads to healing, and the only cure for darkness is the light. Hiding our shame only feeds the pain and moves us farther from the grace and mercy that is freely offered to all who choose to drop their burdens at the Lord’s feet and embrace the forgiveness and acceptance He grants to every repentant heart. It is the lies of our enemy that tells us we need to keep our secrets buried deep inside and bury our pain where it can’t be found. Let’s embrace Christ’s invitation and bring every dark place we thought we had to keep hidden into the warmth of His light so His grace can cleanse us, heal us, and fully restore us today.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:15-16
