Jedi Knights, Padawans, and Servant Leadership: Helping Others in the Midst of our Own Storms

The mutually beneficial relationship between a Jedi Knight and their padawan is a pretty unique dynamic… while neither of them are a “master” yet (sorry Anakin), both are actively giving as well as receiving while still being in the position of “learners” themselves. While it can seem counterintuitive to have someone who has not yet fully mastered a skill to be charged with the responsibility of demonstrating it to others, both participants support their partner’s growth as well as their own by unselfishly serving each other through their shared struggles. It is only through the alignment of their needs that they are placed in the perfect position to receive what they are seeking by giving what they have first.

The Lord doesn’t wait for us to feel like we have achieved “mastery” of our current challenges and situations in life before using us to serve others. We are called to act as living conduits of His grace in the midst of the personal storms we are currently enduring, supporting others in their moments of need with the same comfort we are actively receiving from the Father in our own situations. The little that we possess can’t be multiplied by Him until we choose to give it away, so let’s freely offer His gifts of encouragement and love to others today. We will often find the answers to our own prayers in the process.

Blessed be the God and my Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
