Most of my earliest gaming memories were on the original NES playing Super Mario Brothers with my sister… but while we were both playing the same game with the same objective, we each approached the way we played the game VERY differently. While I would zip through each level as quickly as possible skipping anything that wasn’t a power-up or extra life, she took her time collecting ALL the coins, breaking EVERY block, and engaging EACH adversary. Because our unique play styles resulted in an inequity in our play time, I became frustrated waiting for “my turn”… but we were both heading the same direction and sharing an identical goal… our paths just took us there in two different ways.
In the body of Christ, we’re all called to serve the Lord differently… some of us will hold positions of organized ministry, while the rest of us will act as His ambassador in our workplaces, homes and schools. Many of us will marry and have children, while the missions of others may be designed with a single-player experience in mind. But if we’re all following His unique call on our lives, we shouldn’t be jealous of the gifts or callings another possesses or judge the way they were called to serve. Let’s all be grateful for the gifts we’ve been given… and be even MORE appreciative for the gifts He has given to others.
Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand. Romans 14:4
Now John answered and said, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow with us.” But Jesus said to him, “Do not forbid him, for he who is not against us is on our side.” Luke 9:49-50
