From the Virtual Boy to the 3DS: Right Dream, Wrong Timing

While Nintendo is known for making some of the most successful and beloved gaming hardware of all time, that doesn’t mean they haven’t been made a few missteps along the way. With the “Virtual Boy”, Nintendo accurately forecasted the emergence of 3D gaming, but in their rush to be first to market they created a Frankenstein monster of a product… a gaming system with a monochromatic screen display that caused both eye pain and headaches for the poor souls who gave it a try. In the future, Nintendo would finally execute their dream of a 3D gaming system with far better results and the incredibly successful Nintendo 3DS handheld was born… it was the right idea and the right company, but it just wasn’t the right time or way for them to do it.

The Lord will place many dreams in our hearts, but there is often a future time and place for His fulfillment of them. The visions He gives us will provide us with the direction we need so we can develop ourselves towards His endgame, but if we aren’t patient we will find ourselves making an “Ishmael” version of His plan that is a poor substitute for the “Isaac” experience that He promised us. We can’t rush His process, so let’s patiently allow Him to guide us step-by-step while placing our full trust in His perfect timing. The Lord is never late… just later than we want.

And Abraham said to God, “Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!” Then God said: “No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him. Genesis 17:18-19

For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; for it will certainly come, it will not delay. Habakkuk 2:3
