Link vs. Dark Link: The Battlefield of our Will

There are two words that tend to instantly strike fear into the heart of even the bravest and most experienced Legend of Zelda player… “Water Temple”. While every dungeon in a Zelda title has a very specific means of completion, the Water Temple levels are notoriously unforgiving in their approach… there is only ONE way to solve them and move forward, there are no shortcuts, and they won’t simply bend to our will. And while there are always enemies throughout the level and a boss fight at the end of every temple that we face, the Water Temple in “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” featured one of the most diabolical opponents yet… Link had to face down and defeat the dark version of himself.

In our real world battles, our most dangerous adversary isn’t other people, demonic forces, or even Satan himself… it is our own stubborn will, the part of us that wants to do things OUR way and solve the puzzles that we face on OUR terms. We shouldn’t be surprised that we we must deny our darker impulses on a daily basis and surrender our will to the Father… even Jesus had to stop and pray for the strength to submit to the Father’s will and silence His desire to do things differently. Let’s yield our minds, thoughts, and actions in prayer to the Lord before trying to force a solution today… His way is the only way.

He went a little farther, and fell on the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him. And He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.” Mark 14:35-36

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2
