When “The Legend of Zelda” series made the big switch to 3D gameplay, the way we played the game also changed dramatically. While many games featured the combat concept of “circle-strafing” over the years, in “Ocarina of Time” this became a core strategy to not only succeed, but to survive. Mindlessly hacking and slashing our way through enemies was no longer an option… we had to “lock-on” to our target, slowly circle around them while dodging their attacks, and patiently wait for a window of opportunity to open up. Circle strafing might feel like nothing was happening other than wasting our time, but it didn’t mean we weren’t doing anything. It just meant we were “actively waiting” until the time was right for us to make a move.
Patiently walking around the “walls of Jericho” that stand between us and the answers to our prayers is never easy… but what we choose to do with our time while we wait for these walls to fall is important. Just as the people of Israel had to march around their walls daily until the Lord brought them tumbling down, we will all spend time “circle-strafing” our destiny until our own doors in life open for us… and during this waiting period we should be both actively praying and preparing until it is time. The Lord will always do His part so don’t lose heart… just keep circling.
I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord! Psalm 27:13-14
But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They will not be overdue a single day! Habakkuk 2:3
Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart. “Shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:1, 7-8
