Either through my own errors during the match or by the machinations of the other racers I’m competing against, there are many times that I enter the third lap of my Mario Kart race in last place. It’s pretty easy to become dejected at this point and give up on winning the race, believing that all hope is lost… but Mario Kart offers the opportunity for a glorious comeback in the form of a speeding bullet power-up. Transforming me into an unstoppable force of raw speed and power, picking up and using this item doesn’t simply level the playing field… it leaves all of my previous mistakes behind me in the dust.
We all have laps in our race we wish we could change… some are self-inflicted wounds (like Samson, who lost his strength through spiritual compromise), while others are caused by the environment or other racers on the track (like the complete desolation of Job or Ruth’s loss of her husband). But we serve a Heavenly Father who specializes in saving the best for last… just as our scarred Savior victoriously emerged from His tomb on the third day, the Lord can use the third lap of our race to accomplish more than our first two laps combined. Let’s leave how we started in the rearview mirror and look forward in faith and anticipation of what He’ll do next… He tends to performs His signature work on the final lap.
Come, and let us return to the Lord; for He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up. After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will raise us up, that we may live in His sight. Hosea 6:1-2
This is wonderful stuff!” he said. “You’re different from most. Usually a host uses the best wine first, and afterwards, when everyone is full and doesn’t care, then he brings out the less expensive brands. But you have kept the best for the last!” John 2:10
