Mario Kart and the Importance of Who We Choose to “Follow”

Watching another players’ portion of the screen while playing in “split-screen” with them can be a dangerous game, and doing this during a race in Mario Kart is no exception. If we are “screen peeking” at someone who is a little bit ahead of us, taking a look at their display can provide us with an early warning on upcoming obstacles, prepare us for challenging turns, and provide a line of sight to the optimal path… but that only works if they are going the correct direction. If they’re going the WRONG way, it’ll only result in distracting us as we blindly follow them into the same trap that they are heading towards… and we’ll both share in an identically tragic downfall.

Who we choose to “follow” in life is one of the most important choices we make… listening to the voices of those who we allow to influence us will guide us into making similar conclusions as well as earn identical outcomes. If the person we are following isn’t following Christ, we don’t have the most critical part of this race in common… we’re both playing this game very differently and pursuing totally different goals as a result. Let’s be mindful of who we permit to speak into our lives, as they can only guide us down the same path they’re following. There’s only one way to the Father… let’s follow those who are on it.

Let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right before you. Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left; remove your foot from evil. Proverbs 4:25-27

And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch. Matthew 15:14b

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6
