Few gaming franchises are more iconic than Mario Kart, offering the perfect blend of a simple racing game with the unpredictability of vehicular combat, resulting in an addictive experience where no two races ever play out identically. But I have found many times that all of these items laying around the course can easily backfire on the user… too many times I have launched a green turtle shell with the intent of striking an opponent only to have it miss and bounce right back towards me. These attacks lack precision, and my efforts at gaining revenge on another racer can easily ricochet and cause me to become the architect of my own downfall.
There will be many times that we are treated poorly by our fellow racers in life, but taking these matters into our own hands is always a recipe for self-inflicted disaster. The Lord is both our Judge and Avenger for a good reason, as He is the only one with an omniscient view of the entire track and how the entirety of the race will unfold. Let’s focus on running the “good race” today, knowing that our itchy trigger fingers firing off the green shells of attacks and insults rarely results in accomplishing His will on this planet. We are called to be peacemakers, not vengeance seekers… let’s turn the other cheek, and trust in the Lord to fight our battles.
If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Romans 12:18-19
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. Matthew 5:44-45
