It hasn’t always been easy to be one of Sonic’s biggest fans… while the Sega Genesis era was full of incredible releases that made the future seem bright, as Sega went through the darker eras of their Saturn and Dreamcast consoles before finally pulling the plug on their hardware business it looked like Sonic’s days in the sun might be over. But despite belonging to a parent company that was facing a big “Game Over” screen Sonic wasn’t done yet, and all of his fans who kept the faith through those dark periods were rewarded with not only some amazing games, but an entire cinematic universe that far exceeded our wildest dreams… a future that wouldn’t have happened if Sega’s original plans for console dominance hadn’t fallen apart first.
We all face periods of time when it looks like the dreams that the Lord has placed into our hearts are dead and buried, but we must remember we are only responsible for our faith in Him and our obedience to His words… He is the One who will bring His promises to pass. We may not always see where He is leading us or understand how His plans will come to pass, but keeping our faith in Him through the dark times is what faith is all about… trusting that what we are hoping for may show up much differently than we expected, but blindly following Him is where dreams come true.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. Hebrews 11:1,8
He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness.” Romans 4:20-22
