An “Ugly Sonic” Start, a “Super Sonic” Finish

Video games have a really poor track record of becoming successful movies, and it looked like that trend would continue when the first images of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie were revealed to the public. But while the first steps of this now highly successful movie franchise resulted in what was impolitely dubbed as “Ugly Sonic”, his rough beginning wasn’t the end of his story. The animation team took the feedback from the fans and Sonic underwent a complete rebirth that resulted in the best possible cinematic version of this beloved character… proving once and for all that it’s not how you start the race, but how you choose to finish it that truly matters the most.

We all have failures in our past that we look back on with regret, but our “Ugly Sonic” start does not have to define how we finish our race. The “new birth” the Lord offers His repentant children is more than just a fresh coat of paint… it’s a complete restoration of who He originally designed us to be from the inside out. The Lord loved us when we were at our most unlovable, choosing us for our specific destiny knowing each decision we’d make before we ever made it. We can’t change our start, but we can still choose how we finish… so let’s move forward in His grace and run our remaining race at “Sonic” speed towards the destiny we were made for.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17

Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14
