Whether you call him Eggman or prefer to use his proper legal name of Dr. Robotnik, the truth remains the same… he is one resilient villain. No matter how many times Sonic sends him and all of his evil schemes crashing down in defeat, you can safely bet your next sixty dollars that he will find a way to return and antagonize Sonic yet again in each respective game release that follows. Much like Bowser, Ganon, Dr. Cortex, and every other “final boss” in our gaming franchises, these adversaries don’t simply stay down. No matter how many times we defeat them in battle, they keep coming back for more… as long as there is a game to be played, they will be there to oppose us every step of the way.

Jesus has fully defeated our enemy through His death and resurrection, purchasing victory for all who follow Him… but until we reach the end of our story, Satan will never rest in his relentless campaign to derail us. While most temptations come from within, we also face external spiritual adversaries who will persistently attack us until our final day. Let’s not be surprised by the battles we face or disappointed that He allowed them to occur… Jesus promised we would face tribulations in life from an enemy we must resist, and He reminded us we can have peace in the storm because He’s already won the game.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 1 Peter 5:8-9

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. John 16:33

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:12-13
