NBA Live: The Importance of Growth to Survive

While the PlayStation was home to many of the best sports titles in gaming for many years, one specific franchise started out strong but didn’t last long… NBA Live. Originally considered the basketball equivalent to the Madden football franchise, the NBA Live series failed to do the one thing that is necessary for any annualized gaming release to thrive and survive… it stopped growing. What was originally considered to be the defining basketball experience gradually declined simply by standing still, allowing a more relevant gaming experience (the NBA 2K series) to take the crown… and in a bitter twist of irony, the franchise named NBA Live is now completely dead, all because it failed to continue to grow.

Growing in our faith isn’t something that occurs passively after we make the decision to follow Christ… it requires a deliberate investment of time spent in prayer and Biblical study as well as putting what we’ve learned into practice in our daily lives. If we are feeling weak in our faith or struggling with a particular battle, perhaps some “spiritual growth” is in order… if even Paul felt the need for continued growth decades after he launched his world-changing ministry, then there isn’t a time where any of us will reach the point where we’ll stop growing. Abiding in Christ isn’t a decision we make, it’s a daily action we take.

Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 3:18a

Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:12-14
