PaRappa the Rapper: You Just Gotta Believe!

There isn’t a rhythm-based game out there quite like Sony’s “PaRappa the Rapper”, a story about a rapping, two-dimensional dog that predates almost all of the music-based titles that made the genre of matching button presses to sounds popular like Frequency, Guitar Hero, and Rock Band. While the funky beats of PaRappa and his unique collection of supporters like Chop Chop Master Onion might not have appeared to be the pioneers of a new style of gameplay that would spawn an entire category of games, in the words of the hero of the story, “You gotta believe!”

In His infinite wisdom, the Lord often chooses to use servants that might appear to be unqualified for their role on the surface… penniless widows like Ruth, overlooked shepherd boys like David, and even repentant tricksters like Jacob were all chosen to be critical parts of His mission to save the world and found their place in Christ’s family tree. But the key in each of their stories was the  faith they chose to place in the invisible God who has promised to guide each of our paths and supply all of our needs along the way, even when the situation appears hopeless. It is exclusively through combining our full faith with His divine power that we see impossible situations become the launching point of our destiny, so let’s take PaRappa’s advice today… we just gotta believe!

Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Mark 9:23

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. Hebrews 11:1-3
