For years, Sony tried to make it happen… they did their best to find a mascot to identify gamers with their platform the way Nintendo had Mario and Sega had Sonic. After trying to make Crash Bandicoot their unofficial mascot, they turned to characters like Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter as proprietary creations that would be forever identified as “PlayStation” icons… and while they were great franchises, they never reached the global recognition of Mario or Sonic. But Sony simply wasn’t meant to be identified with one singular mascot like their competitors… instead, they have dozen of characters that are inextricably linked to many of our best gaming memories. Sony simply had a unique path to their destiny that wasn’t the same as the others.
Even in the body of Christ, we can fall victim to the unhealthy desire to compare ourselves and our path to the lives of others… but because the Lord has a unique calling for each of us, we will each experience His guidance and provision in different ways. From the material blessings and successes we enjoy, to the talents and spiritual gifts we receive, to the amount of time we each receive on this planet, none of our paths will be identical. If someone is being used by the Lord differently than we are, let’s ask ourselves “What is that to us?”… and remember we follow HIM.
Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?” Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.” John 21:21-22
He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip. Matthew 25:15
