On my short list of the most influential games I’ve played in my life, there is a title that probably shouldn’t be there. I never saw a marketing ad for it, I didn’t read a review that compelled me to try it, and it wasn’t a sequel to a game I’d played before. That game is “Deus Ex” on the PS1, and from its setting in a rain-soaked dystopian future filled with robust dialogue trees to its branching storylines with multiple compelling endings, for me it was everything I never knew I needed in a game. So how did it come into my possession? Because a game store clerk took the time to talk to me and truly listen to what I was looking for… and that led them to share their experience with a game that I wouldn’t have tried otherwise.
As the ambassadors of Christ on earth, each of us carry a calling to share Him with others, and accomplishing that mission will require us to do more than passively put our faith out on display. It is exclusively through the authentic connection we make with those we interact with in our daily lives that we hear their deepest needs, and allow His Spirit to show us the points of intersection in our own personal testimony and experience with Him. The best advertisement for a relationship with the Lord is the one we possess, and if we truly listen to those He’s placed in our path, we’ll find we have exactly what they’re searching for.
Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:18,20
And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.” Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.” John 4:39,42
