There is a reason that Thanos is considered one of the most dangerous villains in Marvel’s comic history… he is both willing and capable of acts of destruction without remorse, as shown by his infamous “snap” that erased half of all life in the universe. But while defeating Thanos wasn’t easy, it wasn’t impossible either… by refusing to accept his wicked scheme as our new normal or cower in fear of what he would do next, the Avengers assembled together and denied him the power he clearly craved over them. Sure, he was a committed adversary with power to inflict harm on those who opposed him… but he wasn’t invincible. To defeat him, they simply had to take back the power he was never meant to possess.
One of Satan’s most powerful weapons against us is fear, paralyzing us from doing what the Lord has placed in our heart to do because of the potential consequences. The attacks that we experience in our hearts, minds, and bodies are intended to erode our faith in the omnipotence of the Lord, but we were not designed to live in fear of Satan or his evil schemes. We have all been given the gifts of power, love, and a sound mind through Christ to reject Satan’s attempts to control us through fear, so let’s stand tall in what we’ve been called to do today. We’re at war with an enemy who has already been defeated.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world 1 John 4:4
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you James 4:7
