Video game antagonists talk a LOT of trash, considering that they were only created for the purpose of being defeated. Throughout the game, we are forced to endure their mockery as they constantly belittle us and make every effort to insure our lives are as miserable as possible. But, in a fun twist of fate, their long-winded rants tend to provide us with valuable exposition that tells us exactly how to defeat them, turning their verbal attacks into a blessing in disguise. Maybe next time they won’t taunt us by explaining how incredibly impenetrable their hidden shield generator is… you know, the one that’s hiding right over there.

The Lord never promised that we wouldn’t face opposition… He actually guaranteed we would. And in the case of Israel and Balaam, this attack even came from someone who claimed to be doing the work of the Lord. But the Lord turned Balaam’s curses into blessings for His people, and He can do the same thing for us. All of the negativity, hate speech, internet trolling, or other attempts to curse us only exposes the fears and weaknesses of those who oppose us… so don’t allow those words to damage your faith. Let’s trust the Lord to redirect them into blessings.

Nevertheless the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam, but the Lord your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loves you. Deuteronomy 23:5
