An in-game narrator can play a HUGE part in our ability to enjoy a game, adding color and texture to the world we are playing in. Some games feature an external narrator, and other times it’s our own character’s voice that adds additional perspective… but either way, they set the tone for the entire experience. The narrator’s voice can be helpful, pointing us in the right direction and enriching the game, or they can be hurtful, reminding us of mistakes we’re trying to move past. The voices we listen to matter… and only some are truly beneficial to our progress.
Narration occurs in our real world more often than we think… we narrate our own lives in our thoughts, we allow others to provide exposition during our interactions, and we act as “guest narrators” in the lives of others. We have a responsibility to speak life to each other as well as to ourselves in our own internal monologues… through Christ, we can stop replaying negative thoughts in our mind, cease repeating hurtful language, and avoid toxic conversations, replacing them with the Lord’s words of hope, forgiveness, and mercy. We are all a guest narrator in someone else’s life today… let’s speak words of love, joy, mercy, and peace, and choose these soundtracks for ourselves as well.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21
Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. James 3:10
