In theory, being a video game protagonist might sound like fun… but if I added up everything that I put them through, it isn’t a very compelling job offer. “Do you like long walks through dangerous forests, absorbing massive amounts of damage, meeting new adversaries and exploring endless hostile environments? Then this adventure is for you!” It’s a bit of a tough sell. While my favorite characters often go through less than favorable circumstances, it’s not because I’m punishing them… it’s actually quite the opposite. I chose them BECAUSE I favor them… I know what they are capable of and that I can count on them.
Even Mary, the mother of Christ, wasn’t sure what to think of her “good news” at first… her surprise pregnancy was filled with drama (potential scandal, Joseph almost withdrawing from the engagement, and a fun-filled trip to pay taxes on her due date). But the reason she was selected for this destiny is the same reason we are chosen for ours… because she found FAVOR with God. The mission He placed us on may not always “feel” like favor… it will typically be filled with hardships and complications. But just like Mary, the “good news” we have been given to deliver will change someone’s world… and ours as well.

But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Luke 1:28-30
