I don’t always agree with every narrative choice the developers make in the games I play… if I was in charge, the story would have unfolded MUCH differently. Even in titles that feature open dialogue options or multiple paths to the finale, the addition of these choices STILL may not lead to the path I would have chosen or the outcome I would have preferred. Despite my best efforts, the Reapers will always invade the Mass Effect universe, some version of Ganon will conquer Hyrule, and Bowser will abduct Princess Peach and hide her in a castle. No matter what I do, some parts of the story can’t be altered because they’re essential to the game in ways I can’t see.
We may not always understand or agree with the narrative decisions the Lord makes or allows in our lives… but He doesn’t ask us to. He is asking for our faith within the storms we would have chosen to avoid if we were in charge of the story. We may struggle to see His purpose at times, but we can’t allow the limitations of our viewpoint to offend us or blind us to His love… even through the hardest of times, when it feels like things could have gone a better or easier way. Jesus prayed for a different cup, too… but He still chose to obediently drink out of the bitter goblet He was given because it served a critical purpose. It was the only one that could save us.
He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Matthew 26:39
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. John 16:33
