When I load a new game that requires me to craft my player before starting the game, I’ve always taken this act very seriously… after all, they will be representing me for the duration of the story. Because the missions will be different, I created a different character for Starfield and than I did for my Fallout or Skyrim adventures. From the big things like the skill proficiencies they possess to the smaller details like the style of their hair and the name they will answer to, this isn’t just a random character… this is now MY character and they possess a unique destiny to fulfill. And this is OUR story that we are going to start and finish together… two beings operating as one with a goal of saving the world.
The Lord has lovingly and carefully crafted each of us specifically for our respective journeys, from the colorful starburst within our eyes to our unique fingerprints. Even His design choices that we don’t understand or agree with all serve a purpose… the details matter to Him, because He expertly and intentionally created us to walk a specific path in life, hand in hand with Him. Anytime we feel like we are in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong skills, remember that He doesn’t just know us, He MADE us. And if we’re following Him, we can trust that we are exactly who and where we are meant to be.
For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them. Psalm 139:13-16
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
